New Year’s Day Concert at the Vienna Hofburg – Strauss & Viennese Classics

Celebrate the New Year in Vienna, the world capital of music, with the traditional Vienna Hofburg Orchestra New Year’s Concert. Since 1980, the orchestra has welcomed the New Year with the famous waltzes and polkas of the Strauss family, complemented by arias, duets and quartets performed by four renowned opera singers.

Two concerts take place on New Year’s Day at 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM in the magnificent Festsaal of the Vienna Hofburg. The programme features works by Johann and Josef Strauss, Franz von Suppé, Franz Lehár and Emmerich Kálmán, combining elegant waltzes, lively polkas, overtures and operetta favourites with the musical humour characteristic of the Viennese tradition.

Covering almost 1,000 m², the Festsaal is the largest hall in the Vienna Hofburg. Originally designed as an imperial throne room, its magnificent architecture and historic ceiling paintings provide a spectacular setting for a memorable New Year’s Day classical concert in the heart of Vienna.
