BALLETT: SWAN LAKE
Rudolf Nurejew
9 performances of Ballett: Swan Lake at the Vienna State Opera, 21 December 2026 to 18 February 2027 — browse the dates and book by seating category.
Browse Dates & BookThe most famous ballet of all: Prince Siegfried meets the swan queen Odette by a moonlit lake, swears to be faithful, and is tricked at his own birthday ball by the sorcerer Rothbart’s daughter Odile, the black swan — the same ballerina, the famous thirty-two fouettés — before the lovers face the lake again. Tchaikovsky’s score of 1877 became the ballet we know in Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s St Petersburg staging of 1895, and the Vienna State Ballet dances it in Rudolf Nureyev’s version, created for this house in 1964 — the premiere, with Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn, is the one that went into the record books for its curtain calls.
Nureyev gives the Prince far more to dance than the old productions did, so the evening belongs to two stars rather than one. Sets and costumes are by Luisa Spinatelli and lighting by Marion Hewlett; Paul Connelly conducts the December and January performances and Guillermo García Calvo the February ones. Four acts, two intervals, about three hours.
The Vienna State Ballet announces its Swan Lake casts performance by performance in the weeks before each date, and had not published them on 15 October 2026. The company’s principals and soloists share Odette/Odile and Siegfried across a nine-performance run; the house calendar carries each cast as it is confirmed, and we will note them here as they appear.
Dates on sale with us: 21, 26, 28 and 30 December 2026; 2 and 5 January 2027; 13, 16 and 18 February 2027. The 13 February performance belongs to the house’s family ballet cycle (suggested for ages 10 and over).
At the Vienna State Opera you book by price category rather than a numbered seat: Category 1 is the front of the Parkett and the central boxes, the numbers rise as the seats move back and up, and we reserve the best available places within the category you choose. The holiday performances are listed a little above the February ones, as they are every year. Tickets for Swan Lake are listed with us from €86 to €361 by category across the run; the bands below show what each typically costs.
Prices as listed with us on 15 October 2026; each date shows its own categories and current prices. All prices include our service fee and may be above the original face value printed on the ticket. Categories 7 to 9 are restricted-view places, offered only when the house releases them. Standing room is sold by the house on the day and never through an agency.

Timing. Acts 1 and 2 run about 70 minutes, Act 3 about 36 and Act 4 about 25, with two 25-minute intervals — roughly three hours in all. Evening performances start at 19:00 or 19:30; the listing shows each date’s time. Doors open well before curtain-up and the house asks latecomers to wait for a suitable break, so plan to be seated ten minutes early. Our guide to how long an opera lasts covers intervals and curtain times in general.
Seats, subtitles, dress. The seating guide walks through the Parkett, the boxes, the Balkon and the Galerie; there is nothing to translate in a ballet, but the seating guide is worth a read because sightlines matter more for dance than for opera — the Parkett and the front of the Balkon see the patterns of the corps de ballet best. There is no enforced dress code — smart casual is the everyday norm and premieres and New Year’s Eve draw evening wear — see what to wear.
Around the performance. Swan Lake is the Vienna State Ballet’s holiday staple: the Christmas and New Year concerts guide puts the December and January dates alongside everything else playing in the city, and the ballet page lists the rest of the company’s season. Staying nearby makes a late finish easy: our hotels guide lists what is within a few minutes’ walk of Opernring. Every other production on sale this season is on the Vienna State Opera page and in the 2026/27 season guide.
ONE EVENT is an independent ticket agency. All tickets offered are genuine and valid, but we are not the official box office of the Vienna State Opera. Prices include our service fee and may be higher than the original face value. The full total is always shown before you pay.
About three hours with two intervals: Acts 1 and 2 (around 70 minutes), a 25-minute interval, Act 3 (around 36 minutes), a second interval, Act 4 (around 25 minutes).
Rudolf Nureyev’s, created for the Vienna State Opera in 1964 after Petipa and Ivanov, with sets and costumes by Luisa Spinatelli. It is the production the company has danced for sixty years, and the one that gives the Prince as much to dance as the Swan Queen.
Yes — it is the ballet most families choose first. The 13 February 2027 performance is part of the house’s family ballet cycle, suggested for ages 10 and over; the holiday dates are long evenings, so the 19:00 starts suit younger children better than the later ones.
The Vienna State Ballet publishes its casts for each performance in the weeks before the date, and had not announced them on 15 October 2026. The house calendar carries each cast as it is confirmed.
Listed with us from €86 (Category 6, February) to €361 (Category 1, holiday dates) across the run, with the middle categories around €151–239. Prices include our service fee and may be above the original face value; each date shows its own.
You book by category and we assign the best available seats within it. Two seats are always seated together unless a listing says otherwise; larger groups may be split, for example 2+2 or 3+1. Our seating guide explains what each part of the house is like.
Tickets are collected from our office at ONE EVENT, Opernring 1/E/536-537, 1010 Vienna, directly opposite the Vienna State Opera, on the day of the performance or one day prior (13:00–17:00, Sundays 15:00–18:00). Where e-tickets are available, we send them by email instead. The house issues tickets about a week before the performance; your booking is confirmed when you buy.
As stated in our Terms & Conditions, tickets are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled after purchase, so double-check your date and category before you confirm. Our Vienna office is happy to help with any question about your booking.
